BLUES GUITARISTS TONY D & DAVID GOGO TO SUPPORT WEST COAST BUDDY GUY DATES
June 26, 2001
Peter North, Edmonton Journal
OTTAWA, ON - At the ripe age of nineteen, Ottawa blues guitarist Tony D and his band were asked to play with the legendary Buddy Guy at a local area club for a weekend of gigs. He gladly accepted but the newcomer to the blues "had never heard of Buddy Guy." Well, it didn't take long for Tony D to figure it out, he says with a laugh "I learned fairly quickly exactly who the great Buddy Guy was !"
Now together, Tony D and David Gogo, two of the premier blues guitarists in Canada, will have a chance to show Buddy Guy all they've learned from the forefathers of the blues like Guy, B.B. King and Albert Collins. The pair will perform together in support of Buddy Guy on June 25th & 26th at the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary & Edmonton, respectively and on June 30th at The Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver as part of the Jazz Festivals.
Olu Dara, who was originally scheduled to open the Western Canadian festival dates for Buddy Guy, unfortunately cancelled, allowing Tony D and David Gogo, who were already on tour out west with their "Back 2 Back Guitar Attack", to happily stepped in and fill the slots.
"West Coast Musician of The Year", David Gogo is touring in support of his brand new release "Half Way To Memphis" (Cordova Bay/PHD), which is receiving rave reviews across the country. The album, his fifth, is a hard hitting mix of blues/rock material that follows hot on the heals of his overwhelming success last year with "Change of Pace" (Cordova Bay/PHD), a record that spawned the hit radio single "Sad and Lonely".
"Live Like Hell"(Diesel/Festival), the latest album from Tony D, is a stinging live release recorded in Montreal back in 1999 and features the 2001 Juno Award winner, Sue Foley.
After their west coast tour both David Gogo and Tony D will hit the summer festival circuit separately, with their respective bands.
